Georgia Chapter Lends Its Support
On June 15, three members of the West Forsyth Youth Lacrosse family were struck by lightning. Matt Brady, a U-13 coach, was out riding dirt bikes with his two boys when a fierce storm rolled in. The three hurried to put CPR training supported, in part, by the Georgia Chapter.their bikes away when a bolt of lightning hit a nearby tree and traveled through the root, tearing up the ground until it reached their trailer. Matt and his younger son Tucker sustained minor injuries. Riggs, a rising 9th grader at North Forsyth High School, was not so lucky. He received the most severe blow from the strike and collapsed due to cardiac arrest. Matt rushed to his side to begin doing CPR until the paramedics arrived. Riggs was taken to Northside Hospital, where he was stabilized. He was then transferred to Children’s Heath Care of Atlanta and remained in ICU for 7 days. He stayed in the hospital for two more weeks for further rehabilitation. The Care in the Community Lacrosse Invitational, supported by USL's Georgia Chapter, benefited the Riggs Brady Benefit Trust to help with Riggs’ emergency medical bills and ongoing rehabilitation. Through the Georgia Chapter’s assistance and guidance (among many others), the event raised over $20,000 for the family while also training hundreds of people (including kids) in CPR.
