Congratulations to the Richmond Chapter of US Lacrosse! They are the third quarter recipient of the Chapter Recognition Program Award.

The lacrosse community in the state of Virginia is fortunate enough to have five US Lacrosse Chapters accessible to them. One chapter that has prospered throughout the years is the Richmond Chapter, led by the efforts of Immediate Past President, Alice Dixon. This chapter has proven to be exceptional in terms of providing services to their members.

The Richmond chapter recently co-sponsored a Wheelchair Lacrosse event with Sportable and Sharon Drescher. Twelve wheelchair athletes participated, including two who traveled from Florida, one from Maryland, and two "clinicians" from California. The event was highlighted by the local CBS-TV affiliate on the 6:00 and 11:00 news!

The Richmond chapter also hosts their own events such as a chapter hall of fame, high school all-star games and coaching education clinics. The second annual All-Star game was a great success, and involved almost 70 athletes, while their hall of fame ceremony boasted 120 attendees! They provide sportsmanship awards annually (from the chapter, Central Virginia Lacrosse Officials’ Association and Central Virginia Lacrosse Womens' Officials' Association) to the boys' and girls' teams that best demonstrated high levels of sportsmanship during the season. Awards are presented to boys' and girls' private school teams, and to boys' and girls' public school/club teams.

Since the chapter launched their web site last year, they have had almost 6,300 visitors. For more information on the Richmond Chapter of US Lacrosse, please visit www.richmondlaxchapter.com or contact the current president, David Maraghy at dmaraghy@aol.com.
