Ricky Fried

HEAD COACH

Ricky Fried serves as head coach of the U.S. Women’s National Team and will lead the team in its gold medal defense at the 2013 FIL World Cup in Oshawa, Ontario. Fried was appointed head coach in 2009, shortly after serving as assistant coach for the gold medal-winning U.S. women’s team at the 2009 FIL World Cup in Prague. He is currently in his ninth season at the helm of the Georgetown University women’s team.

In his first eight seasons, Fried led the Hoyas to a 93-52 overall record. The Hoyas have earned six Big East regular season titles, made four trips to the Big East Tournament Championship Game (winning in 2010) and have advanced to the NCAA Tournament five times, reaching the quarterfinals twice.

Fried has coached 20 All-Americans as well as the National Goalie of the Year, two Big East Attackers of the Year, two Midfielders of the Year, five Defensive Players of the Year and 46 Big East first or second team selections. He previously served as a Georgetown assistant coach in 2003 and 2004.

Prior to Georgetown, Fried served as an assistant coach at Johns Hopkins University for nine seasons. He arrived at Hopkins after two years as an assistant at the Gilman School and one season as an assistant at UMBC, his alma mater.

A 1988 graduate, Fried was an All-American midfielder for the Retrievers lacrosse team. Among his accolades were serving as team captain and being named team MVP in his senior season. He also played professionally with the Philadelphia Wings (1989-92, 1997) and the Baltimore Thunder (1993-94).

Fried is active in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) and has served as the organization's vice president, on the board of directors and several other committees. He currently sits on the NCAA Regional and Regional All-American committees and is a member of the Tewaaraton Award selection committee.

Ricky and his wife, Halyna, have two children, Jack (9) and Paige (7). They reside in Columbia, Md.
