Jeff Shirk Named Speaker at US Lacrosse National Convention
Washington College men’s lacrosse coach to host "Best Practices for Playing Fast" Jan. 12 in Philadelphia
BALTIMORE, Dec. 10, 2012 — US Lacrosse has named Jeff Shirk, head men’s lacrosse coach at Washington College, a speaker at the US Lacrosse National Convention, presented by Champion. Shirk will join roughly 150 of the sport’s best coaches, officials and administrators as presenters at the lacrosse world’s largest professional development event Jan. 11-13, 2013, at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia.
Shirk will host “Best Practices for Playing Fast” for boys’ lacrosse coaches at 9:30 a.m. Jan. 12.
“Jeff is one of the rising young coaches in lacrosse, and given that pace of play is a hot topic in the sport, his session should prove very insightful,” said Beth Porreca, director of special events at US Lacrosse. “We’re happy to have him as a speaker at the US Lacrosse National Convention.”
“Speaking at the US Lacrosse National Convention is an honor and a great opportunity to contribute to the growth of the game,” Shirk said. “I’m looking forward to meeting and sharing some tips with coaches from around the country.”
Shirk will enter his third season at Washington College in 2013, having taken the Shoremen to the 2012 Centennial Conference regular-season championship and their first berth in the NCAA tournament since 2008. He was named the conference’s coach of the year. Shirk was the head coach at Virginia Military Insititute for four years before that, guiding the Keydets to their first berth in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championship game.
Shirk played collegiately at the University of Maryland, serving as a captain his senior season. He helped lead the Terrapins to the 1998 ACC championship and the 1997 and ’98 NCAA finals. He played three years in the National Lacrosse League before turning to coaching.
