In addition to its national staff, US Lacrosse relies on a highly-decentralized and representative national volunteer leadership structure to conduct its operations. The US Lacrosse structure is based on the tenets of the Amateur Sports Act of 1978, which established the governance structure for amateur Olympic sports in the United States.
