Level 1 Trainer Job Description
A Level 1 trainer facilitates the Coaches' Education Program (CEP) Level 1 Instructional Clinics, which are nationally scheduled by US Lacrosse. They are also a component of Level 1 Certification. Trainers are assigned from the national office based on the pre-determined schedule for that clinic cycle. These clinics are part of the CEP Level 1 curriculum and certification, which is the only standardized coaches' training and certification program in the country. Trainers are expected to maintain the integrity of the curriculum and the program by holding to the clinic objectives, method, and content when conducting these clinics.
Who are the Level 1 trainers?
CEP trainers currently include former National Team players, Division I, II and III collegiate coaches, and outstanding youth coaches from over 20 different states representing all regions of the United States.
Current Level 1 trainers were selected for their extensive knowledge of the game, teaching ability, knowledge of the needs of beginning players, and passion for training coaches.
All of the CEP Level 1 trainers have been rigorously trained in the Level 1 curriculum, are US Lacrosse Level 1 certified coaches, PCA Double-Goal Coach certified, and have passed a comprehensive background check. They are regularly evaluated on their performance to maintain the quality of the program. Trainers are completely compensated for clinics they conduct.
Become a Level 1 Trainer
Only the highest caliber lacrosse coaches are selected to become CEP Level 1 Trainers. Our clinic quality and the integrity of certification can only be maintained by the quality of our trainers. This is an extremely competitive program and there is a finite number of trainers we can admit to the program. If you think you have the outstanding skills and competencies to train others in excellence in coaching lacrosse, we invite you to apply. To be eligible for acceptance into a Train the Trainer Seminar in 2008, applications are due by May 31, 2008.
The Successful Level 1 Trainer Candidate is:
• An inherent teacher of the game who is comfortable teaching other coaches, not just players.
• Comfortable presenting to large groups of people.
• Deeply knowledgeable of the game of lacrosse and how to coach the game effectively at many levels, from beginner to advanced.
• Enthusiastic and positive.
If accepted into the program, trainers must first attend and satisfactorily complete a Train the Trainer seminar, then conduct a clinic with a senior trainer in order to become a certified CEP trainer.
2008 Train the Trainer Seminar Information
US Lacrosse is looking to increase its pool of trainers in 2008. Currently, the 2008 events are in the planning process, but final sites and dates have not been determined yet.

Trainer Seminars are free.
A small travel and lodging stipend will be provided to those invited into the program. For specific details, please contact trainers@uslacrosse.org.
Procedure for becoming a Level 1 trainer:
1. Submit an Application for Review:
- Review the following documents:
- Download and complete a Trainer Application and Recommendation Form:

- Submit the application, recommendation form, and a general resume (does not need to be lacrosse-specific) with a $10 application fee to trainers@uslacrosse.org
- Upon receipt of these three documents and the application fee, your application will be ready for review by the Coaches Education Committee for acceptance into a 2008 Train the Trainer seminar. You will also be notified when seminar dates are determined.
2. Fulfill Train the Trainer Seminar Prerequisites
To be considered for attendance to a Train the Trainer Seminar, you must:
- Be a current member of US Lacrosse

- Note: Level 1 certification may be waived on a case by case basis for 2008 IF the only incomplete component barring certification is the Level 1 instructional clinic. Priority is given to trainers who are Level 1 coaching certified.
