SAW Lacrosse

The Charlottesville Chapter is pleased to announce the addition of SAW Lacrosse to our ever-growing organization. SAW stands for Staunton, Augusta, and Waynesboro Lacrosse and is the brainchild of Chris Darden and KatriHeller. Chris and Katri began SAW in the summer of 2011 with an information table at the annual Waynesboro Summer Extravaganza. The feedback and support from the Extravaganza showed that people in the Valley wanted lacrosse. A follow-up summer weeklong beginner clinic was held in August. It had more than 60 boys and girls attend to learn more about the sport. Monthly clinics have been planned during the winter months to help build and maintain the early momentum with the goal being to field teams or a league in 2012. For more info on SAW check them out on Facebook (SAW Lacrosse) or via email sawlacrosse@yahoo.com.

Fluvanna Lacrosse

Fluvanna High School has announced that their Boys’ and Girls’ Varsity and JV teams will be joining the Jefferson District during the 2012 spring lacrosse season. Fluvanna is the first public school to add lacrosse since Monticello High School did back in the mid 1990's. The efforts to bring lacrosse toFluvanna have been lead by Doug Hotz, Donna Douma, and many other supportive parents. Melissa Frederick led the writing of a Program Equipment Grant from US Lacrosse. Fluvanna was informed in early November that it has been awarded the grant which will provide full protective equipment for 20 boys and 20 girls. As of Nov. 15, 2011, the supporters of Fluvanna Lacrosse have raised nearly $34,000 in cash and equipment, which leaves them $6,000 short of their goal. If you wish to make a tax deductible contribution to help support Fluvanna lacrosse or for additional information, please email uslaxcville@yahoo.com
