Hampton Roads Chapter News & Events

Hampton Roads Chapter selected as one of six
chapters to lead development of the
US Lacrosse Gold Stick Program

In order to provide the best experience possible for the youth who currently or will be playing the sport of lacrosse, US Lacrosse is developing “Gold Stick Standards of Excellence” to represent the Best Practices for incorporation by quality youth lacrosse programs.  At their best, youth sports programs provide young people with a safe environment in which to have fun, build character, learn sportsmanship and develop life skills that help them become responsible adults.

As US Lacrosse initiates a soft launch of the program, the Hampton Roads Chapter is one of six US Lacrosse chapters selected to lead the development of the Gold Stick Program. T
he Hampton Roads Chapter is the only chapter in the Mid-Atlantic Region selected to participate in the development of the program. Working alongside chapters leaders from CT, North TX, NorCal, Utah, and Colorado, the Hampton Roads Chapter leadership supported the US Lacrosse Sport Development Department during a series of numerous engagements and strategy sessions over the past year.

US Lacrosse anticipates rolling out the Gold Stick program nationally in the summer of 2013.  The Hampton Roads Chapter STRONGLY encourages all area leagues to strive for Gold Stick Standards. To qualify for the US Lacrosse “Gold Stick Standards” a league has to meet, or exceed, all standards established by US Lacrosse.

Additionally, the Chapter would like to highlight one local lacrosse league, the HRLax League, for being one of seven “Smaller Leagues” across the nation selected as a pilot league.  The HRLax League is the only league in the state of Virginia, regardless of size, selected to participate.
