FURMAN NAMES RACHEL WHITTEN WOMEN'S LACROSSE COACH

Dr. Gary Clark, Director of Athletics at Furman University, has named Rachel Whitten as Head Coach of Furman's Women's lacrosse program. Rachel was a two time All American at Baltimore's Loyola University graduating in 2004. She has been an assistant coach at Denver University the past six years, the last of which she was the Associate Head Coach. Furman University will begin play in Division I in the 2015 season.


FURMAN NAMES RICHIE MEADE MEN'S LACROSSE COACH

Furman University director of athletics, Dr. Gary Clark, announced the hiring of, well known, Richie Meade as the "Paladins" first Men's lacrosse coach. Furman will field a Men's team in 2015 competing at the Div I level. Richie, a Long Island native, played lacrosse at the University of North Carolina, graduating in 1976. He has coached lacrosse for 35 years, most recently at the United States Naval Academy from 1994 until 2011.


TEAM PALMETTO

Based on the continued success of Team Palmetto, the team will expand its activity to the summer and fall seasons in 2012. TP will continue to be a non-profit organization, headed by experienced coaches who do not currently coach any SC school teams, and will continue to be an activity sponsored by the SC Chapter of US Lacrosse. Team Palmetto is partnering with 3dlacrosse (www.3dlacrosse.com) to provide top level recruiting exposure. The summer and fall schedules are posted and tryouts will be held in May 13th for the summer and fall season team. More information on Team Palmetto can be found atwww.teampalmettosc.com.


SOUTH CAROLINA TO HOST MCLA TOURNAMENT AGAIN IN 2013



Greenville, South Carolina was selected by the Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association to be the site of their 2012 & 2013 Championship Tournaments. The Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA) is a national organization of college lacrosse teams not associated with the NCAA. More than 210 colleges field varsity men's lacrosse teams competing in Division I and Division II of the MCLA. Forty of these teams make the playoffs and the final sixteen in each Division came to Greenville MaY 16th to May 19th to decide the National Collegiate Champions. The 2012 Tournament was a successful one with Colorado State getting the best of Cal Poly in the Div I game and St Thomas winning the Div II Championship. Greenville is looking forward to next year's tournament to be even bigger and better. The South Carolina Chapter of US Lacrosse is proud that South Carolina was chosen by the MCLA for this tremendous lacrosse event.
