The Valerie Walchak Trophy is presented to the Girls Championship team. Created by the USWLA Executive Board, this award is named for Valerie Walchak in recognition of her contribution to the development of schoolgirl lacrosse in the United States. In 1980, Walchak petitioned the USWLA Board of Directors to establish a Schoolgirl Division at the USWLA National Tournament. In 1981, schoolgirl teams from Philadelphia District and Virginia played exhibition games at the tournament at Germantown Academy. That same year, she proposed the All-American Awards for schoolgirl players. A West Chester University graduate, Valerie Walchak has played, coached, officiated and managed Philadelphia club teams and associations for many years. She coached at Haverford High School for 14 years. |
