UC-Santa Barbara and Cal Poly win IA National Championships
Top-seed UC-Santa Barbara won their first-ever US Lacrosse Men's Division Intercollegiate Associates National Championship defeating second-seed Colorado State 8-7 on May 15 to avenge last year's 6-4 championship game loss. UCSB had a balance attack as seven different goal scorers found the back of the net. Gaucho junior Will Patton was named Most Valuable Player of the tournament. Earlier in the day, Cal Poly won their fourth straight US Lacrosse Women's Division IA National Championship with a 15-4 victory over 8th seed Santa Clara. The Mustangs are the only team to win the WDIA national title in the four year existence of the tournament. MORE . . .

Event
The 2004 Intercollegiate Associates National Championships, hosted by the St. Louis Chapter of US Lacrosse, showcased the nation’s best Men’s and Women’s Intercollegiate Associates lacrosse teams in the same venue. It is the only National College Championship that is endorsed and managed by US Lacrosse, the National Governing Body of Lacrosse. This premier event will attract and spotlight some of the best and brightest lacrosse talent in the realm of college athletics.

The US Lacrosse Intercollegiate Associates are comprised of approximately 175 men's and over 100 women's college programs around the country. The teams are not varsity programs at the colleges, but follow similar guidelines as varsity programs and compete at a level much more organized than traditional college club programs.

A total of 16 men's teams and 12 women's teams are in St. Louis for the national championships. This is the eighth straight year that the men's championship (May 11-15) has been held in St. Louis and the fourth straight year for the women's championship (May 13-15).
