2003 US Lacrosse Foundation Fall Ball Putting Tournament Dedham Country and Polo Club • Dedhan, MA
The 2003 US Lacrosse Foundation Fall Ball Putting Tournament was held on September 23 at the Dedham Country and Polo Club in Dedham, MA. Heavy rains forced the cancellation of the actual putting portion of the evening, but celebrated sportswriter Frank Deford (pictured at right) ensured that the evening was still a big success. This year's event raised over $50,000 in support of US Lacrosse with a portion going to benefit a US Lacrosse-affiliated BRIDGE (Building Relationships to Initiate Diversity, Growth and Enrichment) program. Alwyn McLeod, a player from the Boston-based BRIDGE program of MetroLacrosse, spoke to crowd, sharing lessons learned from lacrosse.
"The evening was a delight, and it was a success financially," said Brett Haire, president of the US Lacrosse Foundation Board of Directors. "That is important, because lacrosse has been an East Coast phenomenon. But with the foundation, we're trying to move this event around the country, to showcase the sport in different zip codes to attract the resources and the attention we need to fuel the growth of the game.
Previous events have been held at Baltusrol (N.J.) Country Club in 2001 and Caves Valley (Md.) Golf Club in 2002. In three years, the annual event has raised over $200,000 in support of US Lacrosse
