The US Lacrosse Foundation is pleased to announce that the 2006 Open Putting Tournament was an overwhelming success while making its first venture to the West Coast. The 2006 event had nearly 200 attendees at the famed Olympic Club in San Francisco and raised nearly $200,000, including $30,000 from a silent auction. Over the past six years, the event has raised nearly $750,000 in support of US Lacrosse and the national development of the sport.
As in the past, the tournament used a scramble and string format on the Olympic Club's putting green. Members of the winning foursome, pictured below, were Greg Murphy (team captain), Brian Lantier, Rich Tuohey and Jim Lewis. Second place team members were Kristen Garlinghouse (captain), Brad Garlinghouse, Matt Holleran and Anouk Holleran.

The US Lacrosse Foundation is pleased to bring this event to prestigous golf courses around the country to raise critical funds to fuel the growth of the game and to secure its future. Previous venues for the event included, among others, Bethpage State Park in Farmingdale, New York; Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pennsylvania; and Baltusrol Country Club in Springfield, New Jersey.
Richie Moran, former mens lacrosse coach at Cornell University and a member of the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame, served as the event's guest speaker for the second straight year in 2006. Jamie Greene, a member of the USLF Board, served as the event host as well as chair of the event committee. Invaluable support for the event was also provided by members of US Lacrosse's NorCal Chapter.

More About The Olympic Club
Founded in 1860 by 23 young athletes enthusiastic for physical fitness, The Olympic Club is regarded as the oldest athletic club in the United States. It was originally home to the latest in gymnastic equipment, but underwent countless additions to meet the athletic needs its growing member-base. The Olympic Club produced champions in numerous sports, including boxing, swimming, football, basketball, and track and field.
In 1922, the Lakeside Clubhouse was erected overlooking the Pacific Ocean between San Francisco and Daly City, about ten miles south of the famed downtown facility. Three golf courses were planned in the surrounding area, the Lake, Ocean, and Cliffs courses. This 36-hole layout has been regarded as the one of the most picturesque and demanding layouts in the United States.
In addition to hosting such golf events at the US Amateur and US Junior Amateur Championships, the Lake Course has been the site for the several exciting US Opens. In 1955, the then-unknown Jack Fleck tied golf legend Ben Hogan after 72 holes, only to defeat him in an 18-hole playoff. This feat denied Hogan of a record-breaking 5th US Open title.
With breathtaking views of the Golden Gate Bridge, Golden Gate Park and the Pacific Ocean, the course is currently in the best shape of the past 25 years. The United States Golf Association recognizes The Olympic Club as one of the first 100 gold clubs in the country. In addition, Golfweek Magazine named The Olympic Club as one of "America's 100 Best Classical Courses" and the club earned a spot on the Top 100 Courses list in Golf Magazine.
Now over 5,000 members strong, The Olympic Club proves to be one of the most prestigious athletic clubs in the country, rich in both history and athletic success.
