Boy's High School All-American Process

Boys' High School All-American Process

The preferred method of selecting All-Americans would be a meeting of all varsity head coaches in the Area. If geography and/or time prohibits a meeting from taking place or if local rules prohibit coaches from being involved with awards selections, then selection must be made by a committee of at least three people. The members of this committee are to be determined by the Area's coaches association. In the absence of a coaches association, the Area Chairman will determine selection. Only the Area varsity coaches (that are members of US Lacrosse) may vote. (one vote per school)

Player eligibility guidelines:
1. Players under consideration are strongly encouraged to be members of US Lacrosse.
2. Players selected must be a First Team member of the All-State, All-County, or All-League team before he is eligible for All-American. All players are eligible in Areas where no postseason honors are awarded.
3. Players on high school club teams are eligible for consideration for All-American awards.
4. Post high school graduates who continue to compete for a high school program are NOT eligible to be considered for All-American.
5. Nominees must be of outstanding character, be in good standing in their school and community, and demonstrate outstanding sportsmanship on and off the field.

Voting procedure:
1. The Varsity coaches in each Area must submit their nominations in writing prior to the meeting of the Area Selection Committee.
2. Voting will be by written ballot.
3. TIE votes will be resolved as follows:

A. If the nominees are in different grades, the upperclassmen will be chosen.
B. If the nominees are in the same grades, the tie will be broken by written ballot with points assigned as follows: 1st choice = 5 points, 2nd choice = 3 points, 3rd choice = 1 point. Highest score wins.

4. If still tied, a final decision will be made by the Area's Committee Chairman after consulting with Tom Hall, the national Chairman of the All-American Selection Committee.

Awards process:
1. Certificates are provided by US Lacrosse. Each award recipient and his high school receive certificates, respectively.
2. Certificates are not awarded to selectees above the number allowed for each Area.
3. Awarding of awards certificates is to be done at appropriate ceremonies, preferably at League or Conference All-Star or Championship games.
4. The deadline for reporting of Area award winners must be made after the season and by June 15.

NOTE: Area allotments will be one All-American for every five varsity teams in an area (club or sub-varsity teams will not count towards this number). Exceptions may be made but must be approved by the SSC's National Awards Chairman.
