Boys' High School Academic All-American Process
The preferred method of selecting Academic All-Americans is a meeting of all varsity head coaches in the Area. If geography and/or time prohibits a meeting from taking place or if local rules prohibit coaches from being involved with awards selections, then selection must be made by a committee of at least three people. The members of this committee is to be determined by the Area's coaches association. In the absence of a coaches association, the Area Chairman will determine selection. Only varsity coaches that are members of US Lacrosse may vote (one vote per school)
NOTE: The minimum academic achievement for the Academic All-American is determined by the Area and may vary from Area to Area, from state to state or from region to region. It is suggested that the Area Chairman have clearly stated guidelines for selecting this award.
Player eligibility guidelines: 1. Nominations for selection should be made in writing prior to the meeting of the Area's selection committee. 2. Each Area is allowed at least one Academic All-American who must not be among the Area's All-American selections. 3. Areas are allowed one Academic All-American for every 10 varsity teams. 4. Nominated players must be seniors. 5. Players on "club" teams are eligible. 6. A school transcript must accompany the nomination. If time permits, a list of all the nominees will be made available to committee members before the selection meeting.
NOTE: Any player that has received a diploma from a secondary school will not be eligible for Academic All-American status during post-graduate study.
Voting procedure: 1. Voting will be by written ballot. 2. Tie votes should be resolved as follows:
A. The tie will be broken by written ballot with points assigned as follows: 1st choice = 5 points, 2nd choice = 3 points, 3rd choice = 1 point. Highest score wins. B. If still tied, a final decision will be made by the Area Chairman.
Awards process: 1. Certificates are provided by US Lacrosse. Each award recipient and his high school receive certificates, respectively. 2. Certificates are not awarded to selectees above the number allowed for each area. 3. Awarding of the certificate is to be done at an appropriate ceremony, preferably at League All-Star or Championship games. 4. The deadline for reporting of Area award winners must be made after the season and by June 15. |
