BALTIMORE, Oct. 3, 2012 — US Lacrosse has announced that Chanhassen, Minnesota and Plantation, Florida will serve as sites for upcoming 2012 Fast Break Initiative (FBI) events. The Minnesota Lacrosse Association and the South Florida Chapter, respectively, will serve as local hosts for the two events.

The FBI "Super Weekend" at Chanhassen High School in Minnesota will be Saturday and Sunday, October 20-21. The event in Florida will be Saturday and Sunday, December 8-9 at South Plantation High School.

Started in 2005, US Lacrosse’s Fast Break is designed to infuse a developing lacrosse area with a variety of resources to launch the sport from the roots up by educating coaches, officials, players and administrators. Targeted areas must display a strong enthusiasm for the sport and have a willingness to work with US Lacrosse and the local USL chapter to grow the game responsibly.

Through Fast Break, US Lacrosse provides free or discounted learning opportunities for all attendees. These include the Level 1 and Level 2 Coaching Education Program (CEP) instructional clinics; a physical education lacrosse workshop; and men’s and women’s officials’ trainings.

"The Fast Break Initiative has the opportunity to make an immediate and positive impact for the development of lacrosse in an emerging area," said Joshua Christian, US Lacrosse’s managing director of sport development. "The commitment of these comprehensive educational resources can be a powerful catalyst for the responsible growth of the men’s and women’s games, and we want to thank our local chapters for their partnership in this endeavor."

Longtime Fast Break partner Lax World is once again serving as sponsor of the 2012 US Lacrosse FBI "Super Weekend" events.

"We're excited to provide coaches, officials, and umpires with this training," said Charity Cox, president of the US Lacrosse South Florida Chapter. "Safety is our top concern and if we can make sure coaches and refs are properly trained, we all win."
