BALTIMORE, July 19, 2012 — US Lacrosse will bring four lacrosse events and more than 1,400 athletes to Lake Buena Vista, Fla., next week as the Champion All-American Showcase, a US Lacrosse event, and the fourth annual US Lacrosse Under-15 National Championships, powered by Lacrosse Unlimited, join the ESPNHS Games at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
"There are nearly 20,000 members of US Lacrosse in Florida," said Beth Porreca, director of special events at US Lacrosse. "The growth of lacrosse there, along with our excellent working relationships with Disney Sports, ESPN, Champion and Lacrosse Unlimited, have helped make our series of events at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex a much-anticipated and memorable week for the teams and families in each of the last two years. We’re looking forward to another great week of lacrosse beginning Sunday."
The girls’ Champion All-American Showcase runs July 22-24 and will feature 84 of the nation’s best high school lacrosse players from 30 states. The players will compete on four teams in round-robin and bracket play. ESPN3.com will stream the championship game live at 1 p.m. ET July 24.
The boys’ Champion All-American Showcase takes place July 25-27 and likewise is a four-team event with round-robin and bracket play. Ninety-six of the country’s top high school players from 31 states will participate. The championship game begins at 1 p.m. ET July 27 and will air on ESPNU at 7 p.m. ET the same day. The US Lacrosse Girls’ U15 National Championship runs July 24-26 and will include 25 of the nation’s best club and community-based teams from 13 states. They’ll play three games on the first day, then be seeded in a single bracket to compete for the national championship. The gold medal game draws at noon July 26. The two-time defending national champion Yellow Jackets (N.Y.) return, and will face challenges from US Lacrosse West Regional Champion Nor Cal Elite Green (Calif.), US Lacrosse Central Regional Champion Coyotes Fusion (Colo.), and US Lacrosse Southeast Regional Champion Stickbenders (Fla.), among others.
The US Lacrosse Boys’ U15 National Championship (July 27-29) concludes the action. Twenty-six of the nation’s best teams from 12 states will compete in pool play followed by a bracket tournament to determine the national champion. Faceoff for the championship game is set for noon July 29. Defending national champion For the Love of the Game (N.Y.), which finished as the runner-up in 2009 and 2010, returns to try to repeat. US Lacrosse Southeast Regional Champion No Limit Ballers (N.Y.) join 2011 national semifinalists Nor Cal Talon (Calif.), Long Island Express (N.Y.), and Long Island Jesters (N.Y.) in a competitive field of challengers.
