BALTIMORE, June 7, 2012 — US Lacrosse today named the Morgan Hill Outdoor Sports Center in San Jose, Calif., host of the 2013 US Lacrosse West Championships, a three-day youth lacrosse tournament for boys’ and girls’ teams in the U11, U13 and U15 age divisions. Event dates will be June 28-30, 2013, and teams may register online at uslacrosse.org beginning on or about Sept. 10, 2012.
"The US Lacrosse membership includes more than 35,000 players under age 15 along the West Coast and into Utah and Colorado," said Beth Porreca, director of special events at US Lacrosse. "Morgan Hill Outdoor Sports Center is a first-class complex. Combine that with the popularity and accessibility of Northern California, and San Jose is a great destination choice for the 2013 US Lacrosse West Championships."
Morgan Hill Outdoor Sports Center features nine fields, including two with turf and lights, a permanent concession stand building and parking for more than 2,400 cars. The complex is just 30 minutes from Mineta San Jose International Airport and in close proximity to two other Bay Area airports. Morgan Hill Outdoor Sports Center has access to major freeways, including Interstates 280 and 880, south of the San Francisco Bay Area.
"We are delighted to host the 2013 US Lacrosse West Championships, as Silicon Valley is a wonderful destination for sports families and fans," said Bill Sherry, CEO of Team San Jose. "San Jose features a number of great restaurants, museums and family attractions. Silicon Valley is the gateway to Northern California, offering plenty for the family to do while visiting for the US Lacrosse West Championships. Local teams from Northern California and those from throughout the West will have a great experience."
Team registration fees remain unchanged from the 2011 US Lacrosse Regional Championships: $1,000 for a U11 team, $1,250 for a U13 team, and $1,350 for a U15 team. Up to 24 players and four coaches/chaperones may comprise each team, resulting in a per-player cost as low as $42. In the U15 division, the top four teams in San Jose will earn automatic invitations with free or reduced registration to the July 2013 US Lacrosse U15 National Championships, powered by Lacrosse Unlimited, at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando.
The 2013 US Lacrosse West Championships will represent part of the organization’s 16th annual series of youth events. US Lacrosse youth tournaments allow the organization’s national membership to compete with class, honor the game, and build relationships with teammates and opponents alike.
