BALTIMORE, May 1, 2012 – US Lacrosse is now accepting applications for the 2012 Michael Breschi Scholarship through July 7, 2012. The scholarship is a one-time award of $2,500 for each of the two recipients.
US Lacrosse, Joe Breschi and his family established the scholarship in 2007 to honor the life and memory of Michael Breschi, son of the University of North Carolina's head coach, Joe Breschi. The Michael Breschi Scholarship is awarded annually to two graduating high school seniors who plan to attend college and are the son or daughter of a lacrosse coach. The parent or guardian can be either a male or female coach for high school or college, and should be a full-time employee of an educational institution. Other criteria considered include extracurricular activity, internships, community service and employment experience.
"If I had not challenged myself in high school academically, athletically, and with my experiences in work and community service, I do not think I would be as successful of a student and athlete at Saint Anselm College," 2011 recipient Marie Luongo said. "I take pride in my extracurricular activities and school grades, and the effort that I put into everything gave me the confidence that I can and will continue to be a dedicated athlete, student, and volunteer server. I love to be involved at school, and Saint Anselm College gave me those opportunities my first year and allowed me to grow as a person. For those reasons, I applied for the Breschi Scholarship and am honored to have received it."
