BALTIMORE, Feb. 6, 2012 – US Lacrosse is providing sportsmanship grants to 32 chapters and leagues in 18 states in support of its commitment to make lacrosse a positive, character-building experience for all participants. The grants will be utilized for coaches and parents workshops conducted by USL’s national partner, Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA).
"We take great pride in our continued relationship with the PCA and in working together to develop the most positive lacrosse culture possible," said Joshua Christian, managing director of sport development at US Lacrosse. "Participation in these workshops supports our drive toward establishing national standards for the game and allows us to provide another critical and relevant service to our membership."
While the PCA offers a variety of different workshops, most USL grant recipients will be hosting the Double Goal Coach 1 workshop, "Coaching for Winning and Life Lessons." This workshop is a current requirement of the US Lacrosse Coaching Education Program’s Level 1 certification process and further supports the national governing body’s commitment to developing knowledgeable and experienced coaches at all levels of the game.
US Lacrosse and PCA share the common vision of equipping all coaches with the training and tools needed to become "Double-Goal Coaches", where goal #1 is striving to win; and goal #2, the more important one, is teaching life lessons via lacrosse. As partners, the two organizations are working to make the de facto youth sports culture one in which every member of the lacrosse community ‘Honors the Game.’
