TORONTO, Ontario, Canada, Jan. 20, 2012 — The Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) has named men’s lacrosse officials Skip Cooper and Tim Howard the Deputy Referees in Chief for the 2014 FIL World Men’s Lacrosse Championship. US Lacrosse will host the quadrennial event July 10-19, 2014, at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Denver, Colo.
Cooper and Howard will join Referee in Chief Tom Sutton as head officials for the event.
"The applicants for these positions were highly qualified, and we’re delighted to have outstanding officials in Skip and Tim join our officiating leadership for the World Championship," said Don Blacklock, chair of the FIL Men’s Officiating Committee.
Cooper, of Thompson’s Station, Tenn., began officiating in 1990 and has officiated FIL World Championships at the senior and under-19 levels. He has twice officiated the NCAA Division II championship game and worked NCAA Division I tournament games. Cooper is a former US Lacrosse officials clinician and played collegiately at UMBC.
Howard, of East Rochester, N.Y., has been a member of the Genesee Valley (N.Y.) Lacrosse Officials Association since 1997. He began officiating international lacrosse in 2004 and has worked world championships at the U19 and senior levels. He started officiating NCAA lacrosse in 1998 and counts several NCAA Division III tournament games among his assignments. Howard played collegiately for Hobart, helping the Statesmen win the 1987 and 1988 NCAA Division III championships.
