BALTIMORE, Nov. 8, 2011 – US Lacrosse has announced that the U.S. men’s national under-19 team will play in an exhibition game and host a clinic for youth players Nov. 18-20 in Dallas, Texas. This is the first Team USA training event for the squad as it begins preparation for the Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) Under-19 World Lacrosse Championship in Turku, Finland, in July 2012. The 23-man roster, which will be bolstered by four alternates, was chosen following tryouts in July.
Team USA will take the field for the first time as a team in an exhibition game versus a team of Dallas area all-stars on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 8:30 p.m. CST, in conjunction with the Dick’s Lone Star Shootout, to be held at The Colony Five Star Complex in The Colony, Texas. Admission to the exhibition game is free of charge.
"We are excited to bring the 2012 U.S. men’s national under-19 team to Texas," said Nathaniel Badder, director of national teams at US Lacrosse. "This marks the first time that a men’s U19 team has had the chance to come together in the year before the world championship, and it is an important part of the program’s mission to bring our national teams to different areas around the country. The team and the weekend’s events are a great testament to the sport’s continued growth, and we are delighted to play a part in it."
In addition to Saturday’s exhibition game, the U.S. men’s U19 team, led by head coach Tim Flynn, will host a national team player clinic for kids in grades 1-8 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 20 at McCullough Middle School. The cost for the clinic is $40 if pre-registered and includes a t-shirt and opportunities to win official Team USA gear. Walk-up registration, pending availability, is $50.
"The Texas lacrosse community is excited to showcase the U.S. men’s national U19 team," said Tom Fitzsimmons, past president of the North Texas Chapter of US Lacrosse. "Our fans, players and coaches are looking forward to seeing a high level of play and will be rooting enthusiastically for the team's success in Finland."
