US Lacrosse’s second annual Regional Championship series returns to the same three sites as the inaugural events in 2011. At the U15 level on the girls’ side, Pacific Falcons White (Calif.) won the West Regional Championship, Northern Lights (Colo.) won the Central Regional Championship, and North Carolina won the Southeast Regional Championship. U15 boys’ teams C2C Black (Texas) and the Atlanta Coyotes (Ga.) won the Central and Southeast Regional Championships, respectively.
Next year will mark the first time US Lacrosse will crown regional champions at the U11 and U13 levels. Champions will receive medals, and the team exhibiting the best sportsmanship in each age and gender division also will be honored. Registration for the US Lacrosse Regional Championships closes March 15, 2012.
"The expansion of our youth lacrosse events has reflected the nationwide growth of the game, and they provide opportunities for our growing youth member base to come together for competition, sportsmanship, and to begin or strengthen relationships with other youth players that lead to the lifelong bonds that many of us in lacrosse enjoy," said Beth Porreca, director of special events at US Lacrosse.
All US Lacrosse youth events in 2012 will feature the age-appropriate, national playing rules for youth boys’ lacrosse and youth girls’ lacrosse to be adopted by the US Lacrosse Board of Directors at its Sept. 10-11, 2011, meeting. The board vote will conclude roughly a nine-month research, development and rules-writing process that included input nationally from youth lacrosse players, coaches, officials, administrators and parents and from the US Lacrosse Sports Science and Safety Committee. The new youth lacrosse rules will be published in various US Lacrosse media following the vote.
