BALTIMORE, June 12, 2013 — The US Lacrosse Central Championships, powered by Lacrosse Unlimited, come to Madison, Wis., Friday through Sunday. Forty-three boys’ and girls’ teams from eight states will compete at Reddan Soccer Park in the only youth lacrosse tournament in the region administered by the national governing body of lacrosse.
Age divisions for the event are U11 (boys only), U13 and U15, and the top four teams in the U15 division will earn automatic invitations with free or discounted registration to the US Lacrosse U15 National Championship, powered by Lacrosse Unlimited, July 23-25 (girls) and 26-28 (boys) at ESPN Wide World of Sports in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
“We can’t wait to welcome the Midwestern lacrosse community to our Central Championships this weekend,” said Beth Porreca, director of special events at US Lacrosse and a recently honored industry leader in Connect magazine’s “40 Under 40” feature. “We’re looking forward to a great tournament weekend for our participating players, coaches and families.”
US Lacrosse has been running youth tournaments since its 1998 inception. The Central Championships took place in Texas the last two years. The Wisconsin Lacrosse Federation, the state’s official chapter of US Lacrosse, boasts more than 4,500 lacrosse players in US Lacrosse’s youth and high school categories.
“We’re proud to have US Lacrosse here,” said Jamie Patrick, director of sports development for the Madison Area Sports Commission. “The Wisconsin Lacrosse Federation has been working hard to develop the sport in Wisconsin, and the Central Championships tournament proves that their hard work has taken root in our community.”
There is no admission charge for spectators at the US Lacrosse Central Championships. Games begin at 4 p.m. CT Friday. The U13 girls’ championship game is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. CT Sunday. The other four divisional finals will begin at noon.
Athletes Connection is the official retail sponsor of the US Lacrosse Central Championships, powered by Lacrosse Unlimited. Gatorade is the event’s official thirst quencher.
