Ward Melville (N.Y.) No. 1 in Nike/US Lacrosse High School Boys' Lacrosse Top 25 of June 11

BALTIMORE, June 11, 2013 — Unbeaten Ward Melville (N.Y.) won the New York Class A championship game to finish its season as the No. 1-ranked team in the Nike/US Lacrosse High School Boys’ Lacrosse Top 25 poll, released today by US Lacrosse. The poll appears as part of Lacrosse Magazine’s bi-weekly report on high school boys’ lacrosse at laxmagazine.com/hsb25.

The Patriots got all eight first-place votes after defeating West Genesee, 16-4, June 8 to win the state championship and finish 22-0 — the only undefeated team in the poll. Ward Melville started the season ranked No. 24, but its closest margin of victory was a 7-3 defeat of Garden City (N.Y.) April 20. The Trojans went on to win the state Class B title and finish No. 3 at 19-3.

Rounding out the top 5 are Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association teams Loyola-Blakefield (Md.) and Boys’ Latin (Md.), followed by Garden City and Washington Catholic Athletic Conference champion Gonzaga (D.C.).
