BALTIMORE, May 24, 2013 — Tickets are now on sale for the 2014 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Championship, which takes place from July 10-19, 2014 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Denver. Tickets can be purchased at www.worldlacrosse2014.com/tickets.
As many as 40 nations are expected to compete in the 2014 FIL World Championship, which is hosted by US Lacrosse. That would easily surpass the previous record for the number of nations competing in the world championship. A total of 29 nations competed at the 2010 men’s world championship in Manchester, England, where the United States edged Canada 12-10 to win gold. This is the first time in nearly two decades that the United States has hosted the men’s world championship, and the first time a lacrosse world championship will be played in the United States away from the East Coast.
"This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and a significant moment for the sport," said Bill Schoonmaker, chief operating officer of US Lacrosse. "Colorado is a beautiful state with a tremendous lacrosse community. We’re excited to showcase the global growth of the sport in the United States with this event, and to welcome the lacrosse world to Colorado."
The 18,000-seat stadium at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park will be used for at least three days of the event – opening ceremonies followed by the U.S.-Canada pool play game, the semifinals, and the championship game. Additionally, the two turf fields at the complex will feature stadium seating holding 10,000 spectators. Additional grass fields at the park will be used for games in the championship.
Full-event ticket packages are available for sale, and include access to more than 125 games over the 10 days. Thye are available in three levels:
• Gold packages include midfield reserved seating for all stadium games in East and West stands, guaranteed bleacher seating for Main Turf Field games and general admission access for all other fields.
• Silver packages include reserved seating for all stadium games in East and West stands and general admission access for all other fields.
• Bronze packages include reserved seating for all stadium games in the South and North stands (end zone) and general admission access for all other fields.
In addition to the world championship, registration is currently open for boys’ youth and men’s masters’ festivals that will be held in conjunction with the event at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. Visit www.worldlacrosse2014.com for more information about age groups and registering a team.
