US Lacrosse today announced the 112-player tryout pool for the 2015 U.S. Women’s National Under-19 Team, with tryouts getting underway Monday at Stevenson University in Owings Mills, Md. The three-day tryout will see girls high school players from 18 states compete for 25 roster spots on the squad that will defend gold at the 2015 Federation of International Lacrosse Under-19 World Championship in Edinburgh, Scotland.

A total of 25 attackers, 61 midfielders, 15 defenders and 11 goalkeepers advanced through a first round of tryouts at the US Lacrosse Women’s National Tournament in May, after qualifying through an initial sub-regional tryouts in their respective geographic areas.

Team USA has captured four U19 World Championship titles, including 1999, 2003, 2007 and 2011. Australia won the inaugural tournament in 1995. In 2011, the U.S. completed a perfect 8-0 run by knocking off Australia 14-11 in the gold medal game in Hannover, Germany.

Former Georgetown women’s coach and current Bryn Mawr (Md.) School co-head coach Kim Simons Tortolani was selected to lead the 2015 U.S. women’s U19 team in January. Liz Kittleman, head women’s coach at Columbia University, is the selection chair for this week’s tryouts and will lead the 11-person selection committee along with Simons Tortolani. Among selectors are U.S. U19 assistant coaches Michele DeJuliis, Bowen Holden and Wendy Kridel, as well as U.S. senior team head coach Ricky Fried and assistant coach Liz Robertshaw.

The final 25-player roster will be announced Wednesday afternoon. The 112-player tryout pool, by position with home state and high school graduation year noted:
