BALTIMORE, Jan. 2, 2013 — The Onondaga Community College men’s and women’s lacrosse teams swept their way to the No. 1 positions in Lacrosse Magazine’s 2013 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) preseason rankings, released today. Lacrosse Magazine also named Onondaga attackman Randy Staats and Anne Arundel midfielder Meghenn Jackson as its preseason players of the year for junior college men and women, respectively.
The Onondaga men enter 2013 having won four consecutive NJCAA championships, the last a 15-6 defeat of Nassau.
The Lazers won the 2012 title thanks in part to Staats, who led the NJCAA in points (139) with 57 goals and 82 assists. His point total set the all-time single-season record at Onondaga as a freshman. Staats is the returning NJCAA Offensive Player of the Year and a first-team All-American, and he was a member of the Iroquois team that beat Team USA in pool play during the 2012 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) Under-19 World Championships.
