Mary played coverpoint at Swarthmore High School from 1944-1946, and was captain of the undefeated 1946 team. After attending Temple University where there was no lacrosse team, she began playing lacrosse for the Philadelphia Women's Lacrosse Association. She played for the Philadelphia WLA from 1951-1961 during that time. She was a member of the US Squad traveling to Great Britain and Ireland as a player of 1957 US Touring Team.
