Born on July 15, 1895 in Cherokee, North Carolina. Attended Cherokee Indian School from 1905 to 1909, progressing to the Carlisle Indian School, which he attended from 1910 to 1916, receiving an M.E. degree from Carlisle in 1916.

While at Carlisle, Leon played lacrosse for four years - 1912 to 1915, was also a member of the varsity track squad -- 1911, 1912, 1913 and 1914, and a varsity football player during the years of 1911-12 and 1913.

Leon became head coach of lacrosse in C.C.N.Y. in 1932 and continued in this capacity until the 1960 season. During his tenure at C.C.N.Y., Leon was assistant football coach for three years and became head coach for two years in 1943 and 1944. Leon became an associate professor of health and physical education while at C.C.N.Y. Between his graduation from Carlisle and his joining the staff at C.C.N.Y., Leon worked as an engineer at the Ford Motor Company in Highland Park, Michigan.

Leon did quite a bit of lacrosse officiating for ten years from 1919 to 1929. Some of his other lacrosse achievements have been many articles for the New York papers and several syndicated features. For several years, he was the assistant editor of the Intercollegiate Guide. He played lacrosse for the New York Lacrosse Club and has been an outstanding figure in the game for many years.

Leon was married in 1938 to his attractive wife, Margaret, and they now reside at 210-04 43rd Avenue, Bayside 61, New York.

There is no question in the minds of all the lacrosse people that our good friend, Leon Miller, has been a staunch supporter of the game and has done a great deal towards its promotion and development throughout the many years he has been associated with the great game of lacrosse. It, therefore, gives me the greatest pleasure to present this certificate of honor commemorating Leon's election into the Lacrosse Hall of Fame.
