US Lacrosse Seeks to Recognize Youth Lacrosse Contributors (12/14/01) US Lacrosse will honor seven outstanding contributors to youth lacrosse during a luncheon at the US Lacrosse Convention on Jan.12, 2002 in Philadelphia. US Lacrosse is currently seeking nominees for the awards in the following categories: Youth Coach of the Year,Program Administrator of the Year, Exceptional "At Risk"/Motivational Youth Coach, Outstanding Contribution to the Game - Boys Coach,Outstanding Contribution to the Game - Girls Coach, Most Innovative Youth Coach and/or Administrator, Growth of the Game Award (for an exceptional coach and/or administrator from a developing lacrosse area).
BYU Tops MDIA Preseason Top 25Poll (11/30/01) Brigham Young captured the top spot in the 2002 US Lacrosse Men's Division Intercollegiate Associates Preseason Top 25 poll, edging out 2001 champion Colorado State. Rounding out the top five are Sonoma State, Michigan and Stanford. The 2002 IA national championship will be played in St. Louis, Mo., from May 8-11.
US Lacrosse Tabs Boys' Latin's Shriver as 2003 U.S. Men's Under-19 Team Coach (11/21/01) US Lacrosse today announced that Bob Shriver, head boys' lacrosse coach at the Boys' Latin School in Baltimore, will coach the U.S.Men's Under-19 Team that will compete in the 2003 International Lacrosse Federation (ILF) World Championship at Towson (Md.) University.
Grandmasters Tourney Seeks Teams(10/31/01) The Florida Really Old Guys (FROG's) are looking for seven teams to come compete in their inaugural Grandmasters of Lacrosse(GMOL) invitational tournament. The tournament will be held Friday January 18th, Saturday January 19th and Sunday January 20th in Weston Florida just west of Ft. Lauderdale. The will be a US Lacrosse sanctioned event and therefore players must be members in good standing of US Lacrosse. Players must be 45 years old with the exception of three players per team 43 and older. Picture identification is required,no exceptions. The entrance fee will be $450.00 per team. The first seven teams that we receive the entrance fee from will be the teams in the tournament. Florida is a great place to visit any time of year and if you live in the great white north January would be fabulous time to come to sunny/warm Florida. For those people who may be interested in fishing or golf we are in the process of looking for special package deals to accommodate you. We are also talking to several hotels and will work for the best possible rates. Bryn Mawr's Kridel Named U.S. Women's U-19 Coach (10/22/01) Wendy Kridel, head girls' lacrosse coach at the Bryn Mawr School in Baltimore, has been named head coach of the U.S. women's under-19team that will compete in the 2003 International Federation of Women's Lacrosse Associations (IFWLA) World Championship at Towson (Md.) University.
2002 US Men's Team to Make Debut on Oct.6 (10/3/01) The 2002 United States Men's Lacrosse team will play together for the first time during the 4th Annual Price Modern Lacrosse for Leukemia tournament on Saturday, Oct. 6 at the McDonogh School in Owings Mills, Md. A total of 11 college teams will also compete in the fall ball tournament and admission is $10 per car.
Memorial Planned for Victims of Sept.11 Attacks (9/28/01) On Sept. 11, 2001, terrorists destroyed the World Trade Center in New York City, part of the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and thousands of lives. Many friends of lacrosse players, coaches, officials and parents were among those lost. To honor and remember those victims, US Lacrosse announces plans to design and construct a permanent memorial in the garden outside of its national headquarters and the Lacrosse Museum and National Hall of Fame in Baltimore.
US Lacrosse Convention Registration (9/11/01) Registration information for the 2002 US Lacrosse Convention is now available.The convention will be held on Jan. 11-13, 2002 at the Philadelphia Downtown Marriott. This year's convention will be a unified event with men's and women's coaches and officials gathering in the same location for the first time ever. The convention features coaching and officiating clinics, guest speakers, business meetings, a large vendor area and an expanded youth curriculum. The convention is free to US Lacrosse members who pre-register by Nov. 15. There is a $25 late fee for registrations received after Nov. 15.
Youth Grants and PCA Workshop Grants Available from US Lacrosse (9/7/01) US Lacrosse is now accepting applications for the 2002 cycle of Youth Grants and Positive Coaching Alliance Workshop grants. All applications must be postmarked by Nov. 1, 2001.
US Lacrosse Names Men's Division High School Academic All-Americans (8/17/01) US Lacrosse, the national governing body of men's and women's lacrosse, is pleased to announce its 2001 Men's Division High School Academic All-Americans, honoring 52 of the top high school boys lacrosse student-athletes in the United States.
US Lacrosse Names Men's Division High School All-Americans (8/2/01) US Lacrosse is pleased to announce its 2001 Men's Division High School All-Americans, honoring 218 of the top high school boys lacrosse players in the United States. The All-Americans are selected by high school coaches on a regional basis. Each area is allotted a number of All-Americans based upon the number of coaches from that area who are members of US Lacrosse, the national governing body of the sport.
Warrior and US Lacrosse Partner for Men's National Teams Program (7/20/01) US Lacrosse has announced that Warrior Lacrosse Inc., will be the exclusive lacrosse equipment and merchandise sponsor of the United States men's national teams program through 2004. Warrior's sponsorship will provide assistance to the 2002 US men's team and the 2003 US U-19 boys' team.
Results from National High School All-Star Games (7/19/01) MVP honors go to Brett Huckle, Nathan Kenney, Alyssa Trudel and Acacia Walker
US Wins 4th Straight World Cup (7/14/01) The United States fell behind 2-0 early, but then scored seven of the next nine goals to take command and defeated Australia 14-8 to wins its fourth straight IFWLA World Cup. Sarah Nelson led the Americans attack with two goals and three assists and Quinn Carney had three goals. Cherie Greer earned player of the match honors.
US Hammers Canada 25-2 in Semifinals (7/12/01) The United States easily defeated Canada 25-2 to reach the finals of the IFWLA World Cup. The United States will meet either Australia or England in the finals on July 14 in High Wycombe, England. The loss was the first for the Canadians in World Cup play this year while the United States improved to 5-0. The US is aiming for its fourth straight World Cup championship.
US Beats Germany to Advance to Semifinals (7/11/01) The United States blanked Germany 18-0 on Wednesday in the quarterfinal round of the IFWLA World Cup to advance to Thursday's semifinals. The US will meet either Canada in the semifinal. Canada defeated Wales 7-5 in its quarterfinal match-up and is looking to medal at the event for the first time since 1982.
Girls High School Academic All-Americans Announced (7/11/01) US Lacrosse is pleased to announce its 2001 Women's Division High School Academic All-Americans, honoring 675 of the top high school girls lacrosse student-athletes in the United States.
US Defeats England to Win Pool "A" (7/9/01) The United States defeated England 11-5 on July 9 in the final pool qualifying game of the IFWLA World Cup. The victory gives the United States a perfect 3-0 record in pool play and they will play the fourth place team from Pool in the quarterfinal round of the tournament on July 11. The fourth place team will be the loser of the Scotland-Germany game on July 10. Danielle Gallagher was named the player of the match.
US Holds Off Australia 7-5(7/8/01) Kara Ariza's second goal of the game gave the United States a 7-2 lead nearly 20 minutes into the second half and the Americans held off a late rally to defeat Australia 7-5 in pool play of the IFWLA World Cup. Kelly Amonte Hiller and Sarah Nelson each added two goals for the US as well. The US will play England on July 9 and can clinch first place in Pool A with a victory over the host team. England is 1-1 after defeating Wales 13-1 on July 8 and losing to Australia 9-7 on July 7.
US Defeats Wales 17-1 in World Cup Opener (7/7/01) Kelly Amonte Hiller scored four goals and added five assists as the United States defeated Wales 17-1 in the opening round of the IFWLA World Cup. The US also got four goals from Cristi Samaras and two goals and two assists from Erin Brown. Also contributing two goals each were Quinn Carney and Michelle Uhlfelder. Sue Heether allowed no goals in the opening 30 minutes of play while Jessica Wilk made four saves in the second half while allowing just one goal. The US meets Australia on July 8. Australia defeated England 9-7 in its opening game.
National High School All-Star Games This Weekend (6/28/01) The National High School All-Star games will be held this weekend in conjunction with the US Lacrosse Youth Festival in Amherst, Mass. The festival runs from June 29 to July 1 and the high school all-star games will be played beginning at noon on June 30.
2001 Girls High School All-Americans Announced (6/27/01) US Lacrosse is pleased to announce its 2001 Women's Division High School All-Americans, honoring 120 of the top high school girls lacrosse players in the United States. An additional 119 players were named as honorable mention selections.
2001 National Lacrosse Hall of Fame Class Selected (6/26/01) The Lacrosse Museum and National Hall of Fame and US Lacrosse are pleased to announce the selection of the 44th class to the National Hall of Fame, a group of 10 individuals who have made significant contributions to the sport as players, coaches, officials and administrators. The 10 new inductees are: Helen Allen, Hunter 1941; Karen Emas Borbee, Delaware 1984; John DeTommaso, Johns Hopkins 1986; Bradley Thomas Duquette, Virginia 1973; James Garvey, Adelphi 1964; Kathleen Geiger, Temple 1986; Nevin (Ned) Harkness, Worcester Academy 1939; Bradley Kotz, Syracuse 1985; Susan Lubking, Ursinus 1960; and Lanetta Ware, Richmond 1959.
2002 US Men's Lacrosse Team Named (6/18/01) Twenty-three players have been selected to represent the United States in the 2002 International Lacrosse Federation World Championship. The World Championship will be played from July 6-14, 2002 in Perth, Australia. The 23 players were selected from 121 players participating in a three-day tryout from June 15-17 at the University of Delaware. The US is the defending ILF champion, having won the 1998 World Championship by defeating Canada 15-14 in overtime at Baltimore's Homewood Field.
Tryouts Set to Begin for US Men's Lacrosse Team (6/13/01) Some of the nation's finest lacrosse players will be competing for 23 coveted roster spots on the 2002 US Men's Lacrosse team this weekend at the University of Delaware. A total of 121 players will be trying out for the team, which will compete in the 2002 International Lacrosse Federation World Championship next July in Perth, Australia.
31 Named to Women's Developmental Team (6/6/01) Thirty-one women's lacrosse players have been named to the United States Developmental Team by US Lacrosse. The Developmental Team consists of players who show the potential to compete at the international level in women's lacrosse and serves as a feeder program for the US Elite and World Cup teams.
World Cup Team Selected (6/4/01) Sixteen players have been selected to represent the United States in the 2001 International Federation of Women's Lacrosse Associations' World Cup. The World Cup will be played from July 7-14 in High Wycombe, England. The 16 players were selected from the 24-member US Elite team following a final tryout at the US Lacrosse Women's Division National Tournament from May 26-27 at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa.
Players Selected for 2002 US Men's Team Tryouts (5/25/01) US Lacrosse has announced the players that have been selected to tryout for the 2002 US Men's Lacrosse team. The tryouts will be held from June 14-17 at the University of Delaware in Newark, Del., and 23 players will be selected from those tryouts to represent the United States at the International Lacrosse Federation World Championships in July 2002 in Perth, Australia.
Women's Division Collegiate All-Americans Named (5/22/01) National champion Maryland placed three players on the first team to highlight the US Lacrosse Women's Division Collegiate All-America teams. National runner-up West Chester had three first team selections to head the Division II team and the College of New Jersey led the Division III team with three selections.
Cal Poly, Colorado State Win IA Championships (5/14/01) Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo and Colorado State took home the titles at the 2001 US Lacrosse Intercollegiate Associates national championships at the Anheuser-Busch Sports Centre. Cal Poly beat Navy 13-6 on May 13 to win the inaugural women's championship and in men's play, Colorado State defeated Stanford 16-7 on May 12 to win its second title in the last three years.
Lower Seeded Teams Crash IA Men's Semifinals (5/10/01) Twelfth-seeded Stanford and ninth-seeded Cal-Santa Barbara pulled consecutive upsets on the first two days of the US Lacrosse Men's Intercollegiate Associates national championship tournament to advance to the semifinals. Second-seeded Brigham Young, the defending national champion, and third-seeded Colorado State are also in the semifinals which will be played Friday, May 11 at the Anheuser-Busch Sports Centre in St. Louis.
US Men's Team Alters Participation Rule (5/8/01) Tryouts for MLL teams will count towards 75 percent participation requirement required for the US team.
Bids Awarded for US Lacrosse Intercollegiate Associates National Championships (5/1/01). The fields are set for the 2001 US Lacrosse Intercollegiate Associates National Championships, which will be held from May 8-13 at the Anheuser-Busch Sports Centre in St. Louis.
Intercollegiate Associates Championships Expand (2/13/01) The US Lacrosse Intercollegiate Associates championships will be expanded this year with 16 men's teams and eight women's teams competing for national championships. The tournaments will take place in St. Louis from May 8-13. This event is the only national championship endorsed, sponsored and sanctioned by US Lacrosse.
Lacrosse Magazine Announces 2001 Preseason College Rankings (2/6/01) Virginia's Conor Gill and Maryland's Jen Adams have been selected as the NCAA Division I preseason players of the year in men's and women's lacrosse, respectively, by Lacrosse Magazine. In the magazine's annual poll of coaches, Syracuse was selected to repeat as the men's champion and Maryland was picked to win its seventh straight women's championship.
US Women's Elite Team Announced (1/25/01) Head coach Sue Stahl has announced the 24 players selected to participate on the United States training team for the 2001 World Cup to be played July 7-14 in High Wycombe, England. The roster will be pared down to the IFWLA-mandated size of 16 players following the US Lacrosse Women's Division National Tournament in late May.
Assistant Coaches Named for 2002 US Men's Lacrosse Team (1/16/01) Mike Pressler, Ray Rostan and Ron Frazier join Jack Emmer's staff -- US Lacrosse has announced that Duke head coach Mike Pressler, Hampden-Sydney head coach Ray Rostan and Brine Lacrosse Club head coach Ron Frazier will serve as assistant coaches for the 2002 US Men's Lacrosse Team, which will compete for the world championship in Australia. |
