Players Selected For 2002 Us Men’s Lacrosse Team Tryouts

Tryouts will be held at the University of Delaware from June 14-17

Baltimore — US Lacrosse has announced the players that have been selected to tryout for the 2002 US Men’s Lacrosse team. The tryouts will be held from June 14-17 at the University of Delaware in Newark, Del., and 23 players will be selected from those tryouts to represent the United States at the International Lacrosse Federation World Championships in July 2002 in Perth, Australia.

A total of 37 attackmen, 50 midfielders, 42 defensemen and 14 goalies will be invited to participate in the tryouts by a 12-person team competition committee chaired by former US team player Larry Quinn. "The committee was very impressed with the quality and quantity (347) of tryout applications," said Quinn. "To have the most ever applicants really shows how the game has grown and testifies to the significance of the US Lacrosse men’s national team program. It was very difficult to determine the tryout players and we look forward to a very competitive and challenging tryout weekend in June."

Highlighting the tryouts will be evening sessions on Friday, June 15 and Saturday, June 16. The players will be split into six teams and will play a series of three games each night at Delaware’s Rullo Stadium. The activities begin at 6 p.m. each night and are open to the public. A modest admission fee will be charged.

The US is the defending ILF World Champion, having defeated Canada 15-14 in overtime to win the 1998 championship at Homewood Field in Baltimore. The US has won seven of the eight ILF World Championships dating to 1967.

US Lacrosse, a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization, is the national governing body of men's and women's lacrosse.
