ILF Awards 2006 Tournament To London, Ontario,
Canada
The 2006 International Lacrosse
Federation (ILF) World Championships will be held in London,
Ontario, Canada, as announced yesterday by ILF Presdient Tom Hayes.
The ninth official ILF tournament will mark the third championship
to be held in Canada, and first since 1986.
Hayes also announced plans to revamp the tournament format to accommodate
the expansion of international lacrosse over the last 10 years.
The ILF expects better than 20 nations to send teams to the 2006
championships, which are tentatively planned for late June and early
July.
Toronto hosted the 1986 tournament, won by the U.S. over Canada,
and the 1967 gathering of teams from Australia, Canada, England,
and the U.S., which spawned the creation of the ILF and the World
Championships.
Perth, Australia hosted the 2002
ILF World Championships, won by the U.S. US Lacrosse will host
the 2003 ILF and International
Federation of Women's Lacrosse Associations (IFWLA) Under-19
World Championships June 26-July 6 at Towson (Md.) University.
