2003 U.S. Under-19 Women's Team Named (8/14/02)
Twenty-four high school players have been named to the 2003 U.S.
Women's Under-19 lacrosse training team by US Lacrosse. The 16 players
that will represent the United States in next summer's International
Federation of Women's Lacrosse Associations (IFWLA) Under-19 World
Championship will be selected from the training team. The players
selected represent high schools from seven different states and
the District of Columbia.

US Lacrosse has teamed with lacrosse enthusiasts in the southern
part of Ohio to more formally develop the sport and create the 49th
regional chapter.
U.S. Women's Elite and Developmental
Teams Named (8/6/02)
A total of 42 players were named to the United States Women's Elite
and Developmental lacrosse teams for 2002-03 as announced by US
Lacrosse, the national governing body for the sport. Twenty players
were named to the Elite team and 22 were named to the Developmental
team.

Shanahan Named Best and Fairest Player
(7/18/02)
Doug Shanahan was named the Best and Fairest Player at the International
Lacrosse Federation World Championship, which concluded in Perth,
Australia on July 14. Shanahan helped the United States win its
sixth straight ILF championship. Shanahan led the U.S. with 16 goals,
including four in the 18-15 championship game victory over Canada.
US Lacrosse Announces 2003 U.S.
Men's Under-19 Lacrosse Team Players and Officials (7/15/02)
After a four-day tryout, 23 players have been named to represent
the U.S. in next summer's International Lacrosse Federation (ILF)
Under-19 World Championship. Three officials also have been named
to participate in the tournament.
U.S. Beats Canada to Win ILF Championship

Doug Shanahan (Hofstra '01) scored four goals and the United States
overcame a two-goal halftime deficit to defeat Canada 18-15 for
the 2002 International Lacrosse Federation World Championship. The
U.S. has now won six consecutive ILF titles since losing the 1978
championship to Canada.
U.S. Advances to ILF World Chamionship
Game (7/12/02)
Kevin Lowe (Princeton '94) scored four goals and added an assist
to lead the United States past the Iroquois Nationals 18-8 in the
semifinal round of the International Lacrosse Federation World Championship
at the UWA Sports Park. The U.S. will meet Canada for the ILF World
Championship on July 14.
U.S. Men's Lacrosse Team to Meet
Iroquois Nationals in Semifinals (7/11/02)
The United States will meet the Iroquois Nationals in the semfinal
round on the International Lacrosse Federation World Championship
on July 12. The Iroquois Nationals advanced to the semifinals by
defeating Japan 19-14 in overtime. The United States went 4-0 in
pool play (Blue Division), including a 22-6 win over the Iroquois
Nationals, and is the top seed for the semifinals.
U.S. Beats England 21-3 to Finish
Pool Play Unbeaten (7/10/02)
Twelve different players scored goals for the United States in a
21- 3 victory over England in the International Lacrosse Federation
World Championship at the UWA Sports Park. The U.S. finishes pool
play with a 4-0 record in the Blue Division and advances to the
semifinals where it will play the winner of a play-in game between
Japan and the Iroquois Nationals. The semifinals will be played
on July 12.
US Lacrosse Members to Recieve
Discounted Admission to MLL All-Star Game (7/10/02)
US Lacrosse has teamed with the Bowie Baysox, host of this year's
Major League Lacrosse All-Star Game, to provide members with discounted
admission prices to the second annual game featuring the league's
best players. The game is set for 4 p.m. Sunday, July 21, at Prince
George's Stadium in Bowie, Md.
US Men's Lacrosse Team Beats Canada
14-9 (7/9/02)
Ryan Boyle (Princeton '04), Steve Dusseau (Georgetown '02) and Doug
Shanahan (Hofstra '01) each scored three goals to lead the United
States past archrival Canada 14-9 during the International Lacrosse
Federation World Championship at the UWA Sports Park. The victory
clinches the Blue Division for the United States (3-0), giving it
the top seed for the semifinal round.

US Lacrosse will welcome 120 of the nation's best players to a four-day
tryout for the 2003 U.S. Men's U-19 Team, which will comepte next
summer for the ILF U-19 World Championship. The tryout is open to
the public and media.
U.S. Defeats Australia 22-7 (7/7/02)
Kevin Lowe had four goals and Michael Powell added three goals and
four assists as the United States downed host Australia 22-7 in
pool play of the International Lacrosse Federation World Championship.
The U.S. jumped out to a 7-1 lead after one quarter and outshot
Australia 51-27 in the contest to move to 2-0 in the competition.
Darren Nicholas led Australia with four goals and Dave Whitlock
added two.
U.S. Men Open ILF Play With a Victory (7/6/02)
The United States opened play at the 2002 International Lacrosse
Federation World Championship by defeating the Iroquois Nationals
22-6. Kevin Lowe led the United States with four goals and Ryan
Boyle and Bobby Benson each added three goals. Gewas Schindler led
the Iroquois Nationals with three goals.

National Lacrosse Hall of Fame Announces
2002 Class (6/24/02)
US Lacrosse has announced the selection of the 45th class for the
National Hall of Fame. The class includes a group of 10 individuals
who have made significant contributions to the sport as players,
coaches, officials and administrators. The 10 new inductees are:
Nancy Vadner Chance, Zack Colburn, Heather Dow, Del Dressel, Eleanor
Kay Hess, Sandra Kay Hoody, Roddy Marino, George McGeeney, Bill
Tierney, Julie R. Williams. There are now 293 inductees to the National
Hall of Fame.

Mid Atlantic 1 captured the Valerie Walchak Trophy with a 10-9,

Sonoma State Tops US Lacrosse
MDIA Poll (4/5/02)
The Sonoma State Cossacks turned back the #3 BYU Cougars of Brigham
Young 16-9 in Provo last weekend in the week's marquee match-up
to solidify their #1 ranking in the latest US Lacrosse Men's
Division Intercollegiate Associates Top 25 poll. The Cossacks were
the unanimous top pick of the 30 poll voters and also knocked off
#5 Cal-Santa Barbara and #11 Texas A&M. Despite the setback,
Brigham Young climbed one notch to #2 via decisive wins over then
#2 Colorado State and #8 Stanford.
2002 U.S. Men's Team Exhibition

The 2002 U.S. Men's Lacrosse Team has announced a six-game
exhibition schedule, highlighted by a May 26 game against the New
Jersey Pride of Major League Lacrosse. The United States will be
competing in the International Lacrosse Federation World Championship
in Perth, Australia from July 5-15 and these six games will be its
final tune-ups before that event.

Josh Coffman to Replace Andy Ross
on 2002 U.S. Men's Team (3/26/02)
Josh Coffman, a senior at Syracuse University, has been selected
to replace Andy Ross on the 2002 U.S. Men's Lacrosse Team for
this summer's International Lacrosse Federation World Championship
in Perth, Australia. Ross, a pilot in the Navy, will be unable to
participate this summer due to a deployment beginning in May.

Navy Takes Over No. 1 Ranking
in WDIA Poll (2/22/02)
With top-ranked Cal Poly falling to UCLA and No. 4 Clemson getting
upset by both Emory and Florida State, there was bound to be some
movement in the US Lacrosse Women's Division Intercollegiate Associates
poll. The shakeups have allowed Navy, the 2001 US Lacrosse WDIA
runner-up, to move into the top spot.
Colorado State Moves Up to
Top Spot in MDIA Poll (2/21/02)
Brigham Young's tenure on top of the US Lacrosse Men's
Division Intercollegiate Associates (USL MDIA) poll was cut short
earlier this week by California-Santa Barbara. The Gauchos knocked
off the top-rated Cougars in California by a count of 10-7 on Monday
afternoon, opening the door for defending champion and preseason
#2, Colorado State, to take over the top spot in the first poll
of the 2002 season. The Rams didn't do their cause any harm
in a decisive opening win over Colorado School of the Mines. CSU
collected 27 out of a possible 30 first place votes in gathering
742 points to claim the #1 ranking.
National Cherry Blossom Festival

The Potomac Chapter of US Lacrosse is proud to announce that lacrosse
has been added to the list of sporting events held in conjunction
with the National Cherry Blossom Festival each spring on the Mall
in Washington, DC. On April 13-14, 2002, from 10 am to 3 pm, please
come enjoy some of the best post-collegiate and collegiate club
