U.S. Men's U-19 Lacrosse Team Tryouts Begin Thursday At UMBC

Baltimore — US Lacrosse will welcome 120 of the best high school lacrosse players in the nation to UMBC Thursday for a four-day tryout for the U.S. Men’s Under-19 Lacrosse Team, which will compete in the 2003 International Lacrosse Federation (ILF) U-19 World Championship in Towson, Md. A 24-person player selection committee will select 23 players from the tryout to form the team, and the announcement will be made Monday, July 15.

All sessions are open to the public and media, and all games will take place at UMBC Stadium. Admission to Friday and Saturday evening sessions is $5 for adults and free for children 12 and under. Proceeds will benefit the 2003 U.S. Men’s U-19 Team.

"We’re ecstatic about the geographic diversity of the tryout candidates. Over 40 high school-playing areas have at least one player at the tryout. The final 23-man team will be outstanding given the quality of the invitees," said Jody Martin, US Lacrosse Men’s Division Director.

Thirty-four attackmen, 38 midfielders, 36 defensemen and 12 goalies were invited to participate in the tryouts by US Lacrosse’s 64 regional high school chairs. A complete list of tryout invitees can be found at www.lacrosse.org/news/u19mtryout.html.
