US Lacrosse Women's National Player Development Camp Set For July
Baltimore US Lacrosse will hold its annual womens
National Player Development Camp at Eastern University in St. Davids,
Pa., July 24-27, 2002, as announced today by US Lacrosse Womens
Division Director Erin Brown. Application forms are now available
for the invitation-only camp, which will feature members of the
U.S. Womens National Team, including members of the 2001 World
Cup Champion Team, as counselors for the nations elite high
school and collegiate female players.
"This is a very intense camp with an elite level of play.
The main thrust of the camp is to expose our best younger players
to the philosophies, techniques, and strategies of the US Lacrosse
Womens National Teams Program, which fields the World Cup
and under-19 national teams," said Brown. "Its no
secret the U.S. is the winningest team in World Cup play because
of programs like the National Player Development Camp."
High school All-Americans and collegiate players are encouraged
to apply, and coaches may recommend other players apply as well.
Coaches recommendations must be submitted with all application
forms.
The camp focuses on game situations and individual instruction
and attempts to identify future national team players. Campers are
not separated based on age or skill level, and must report to camp
in good physical condition. Developmental team head coach Sue
Murphy and under-19 team head coach Wendy Kridel will
be among those staffing the camp, which has a limited enrollment
allowing campers to receive personal attention from coaches.
"The camp is really a win-win situation," said Brown.
"The kids get exposure to the U.S. team coaches and players,
and the National Teams Program gets to spend three and a half days
marketing what the national team is all about. We really want to
get the kids hooked into the program. Were looking to build
for the future of the U.S. womens program."
Camp application forms are now available by visiting the Womens
National Teams Program page of the US Lacrosse web site at http://www.lacrosse.org/wnatl_team.html.
