U.S. Men's Lacrosse Beats England 21-3
PERTH, Australia (July 10) -Twelve different players scored
goals for the United States in a 21- 3 victory over England in the
International Lacrosse Federation World Championship at the UWA
Sports Park. The U.S. finishes pool play with a 4-0 record in the
Blue Division and advances to the semifinals where it will play
the winner of a play-in game between Japan and the Iroquois Nationals.
The semifinals will be played on July 12.
The U.S. scored six goals in the first 10 minutes of the game and
cruised to the victory over England. Michael Powell (Syracuse '04)
had a team-high seven points on two goals and five assists for the
U.S. and Darren Lowe (Brown '92) added three goals and three assists.
The U.S. also got three goals each from Bobby Benson (Johns Hopkins
'03) and Doug Shanahan (Hofstra '01). U.S. goalies Chris LaMonica
(Hartford '97) and Trevor Tierney (Princeton '01) each made four
saves in the victory.
England got single tallies from Tom Caplin, Dave Carman and Paul
Flowers.
Japan defeated Wales 21-8 today to win the Red Division with a perfect
5-0 record. The Iroquois Nationals went 1-3, including a 22-6 loss
to the United States, to finish in fourth place in the Blue Division.
They will play Japan on July 11. The Blue Division is comprised
of the top five finishers from the previous ILF World Championship.
The second semifinal on July 12 will pit Canada against host Australia
in a rematch of a game that Canada won 14-12 today.
