U.S. Beats New Jersey Pride 14-10 in Exhibition
Opener
BRIDGEWATER, N.J. (May 26) - Scott Doyle scored four goals,
including two two-pointers, and Darren Lowe handed out eight assists
to lift the 2002 U.S. Men's Lacrosse Team to a 14-10 victory over
the New Jersey Pride of Major League Lacrosse in an exhibition game
before 1,500 at Bridgewater Raritan High School.
The U.S. Men's Team is preparing for its July 5-15 trip to Perth,
Australia, for the International Lacrosse Federation (ILF) World
Championship, and it opened its six-game stateside exhibition schedule
tonight.
Kevin Cassese and Kevin Lowe added two goals each and Scott Bross
won 15 of 19 faceoffs as the U.S. led by as many as six in the win.
David Curry (three goals) and Jesse Hubbard (two) opened the scoring
for the Pride before Darren Lowe assisted on Doyle's two consecutive
goals from beyond
the MLL's two-point arch to give the U.S. a 4-2 lead it would never
surrender.
New Jersey's Scott Urick scored back-to-back goals to cut the U.S.'s
lead to 8-7 at halftime, but the U.S. scored the second half's first
three goals and the Pride never got closer than three the rest of
the way.
The U.S. Men's Team plays its second exhibition game at 3 p.m.
Saturday, June 1, against the Capital All-Stars at Georgetown Prep
School in Bethesda, MD.
