U.S. Men's Lacrosse Team Travels To New York For Third Exhibition

Baltimore — The 2002 U.S. Men’s Lacrosse Team, bound for Perth, Australia, July 5-15 for the International Lacrosse Federation (ILF) World Championship, continues its exhibition schedule at 6 p.m. Saturday against the Hudson Valley Chapter of US Lacrosse All-Star Team at Mahopac High School in Mahopac, N.Y. The U.S. team is 2-0 in exhibition play following a 20-6 win over the Capital All-Stars in Bethesda, Md., on June 1.

The exhibition game will follow the Hudson Valley Chapter’s annual 20-team Youth Jamboree at nearby Brewster High School, which will end at 4 p.m. Gates at Mahopac will open at 5 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $1 for children 12 and under.

"We’re happy to come to Hudson Valley for an exhibition game, and I want to thank everyone in the Hudson Valley Chapter for helping to make this happen," said Chris Hupfeldt, general manager of the 2002 U.S. Men’s Team. "It will be a great opportunity for New York lacrosse fans to come out and see the U.S. Men’s Team."

The U.S. team, under the direction of Army coach Jack Emmer, is seeking its sixth straight ILF championship, and will play six exhibition games through June 27 as final tuneups for the ILF tournament.

"We’re looking to raise some money for the team, and really give them a good game. We have a number of guys who have won national championships. We have a good mix of young college and club players," said Jim Lindsay, coordinator of the exhibition game for the Hudson Valley Chapter. "I’d like to thank Coach Emmer and Joe Corace of Mahopac High for their help in putting this together."

The Hudson Valley team roster includes Jason Coffman, the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer who played collegiately at Salisbury (Md.) University, and current Syracuse attackman Sean Lindsay, who recently helped the Orangemen to their second national title in three years.

Scott Doyle scored four goals, Kevin Lowe scored three, and Kevin Lavey, Steve Dusseau and Darren Lowe added two each to lead the U.S. Men’s Team to a 20-6 win over the Capital All-Stars in its second exhibition game. The win came on the heels of a 14-10 victory over the New Jersey Pride of Major League Lacrosse in the U.S.’s exhibition opener on May 26. The U.S. team will play the Philadelphia All-Stars on June 22 before departing for California for camp and its final two exhibition contests.

US Lacrosse, a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization, is the national governing body of men's and women's lacrosse.
