U.S. Men's Lacrosse Team Plays Final East Coast
Exhibition Saturday In Philadelphia
Baltimore The 2002 U.S. Mens Lacrosse Team, bound
for Perth, Australia, July 5-15 for the International Lacrosse Federation
(ILF) World Championship, will play its final exhibition game on
the East Coast Saturday against the Philadelphia Lacrosse Association
All-Stars at the Haverford School in Haverford, Pa. The U.S. team
is 3-0 in exhibition play following a 20-5 win over the Hudson Valley
All-Stars in Mahopac, N.Y., and it will play its final two exhibition
games in California before departing for Australia.
The exhibition will be part of the Philadelphia Lacrosse Festival,
which begins at 8:30 a.m. with a series of youth and high school
all-star games. The U.S. team and Philadelphia College/Club All-Stars
will take the field at 3 p.m. Tickets are priced at $10 for adults
and $5 for children under 12, and they may be purchased at the gate
or by calling 610-293-9772.
"The exhibition season has gone very well, and we couldnt
be happier to close out our East Coast part of the schedule with
a game in the Philadelphia area," said Chris Hupfeldt,
general manager of the 2002 U.S. Mens Team. "The Philadelphia
Lacrosse Association has put together a great day of lacrosse and
fun, and were grateful to be a part of it."
The U.S. team, under the direction of Army coach Jack Emmer,
is seeking its sixth straight ILF championship, and will play six
exhibition games through June 27 as final tuneups for the ILF tournament.
The Philadelphia team roster includes local products John Christmas
(Virginia) and Kyle Barrie (Johns Hopkins), and former Princeton
stars Kurt Lunkenheimer and Matt Bailer.
"Were going to have an outstanding day of local lacrosse,
highlighted by the U.S. team," said Zach Colburn, exhibition
event coordinator. "Four years ago we had a lot of success
at a similar event at Villanova, and we want to repeat that. Were
showing off a beautiful campus at Haverford. We want to help promote
the game and introduce the U.S. team, and raise some funds to help
them repeat in Australia."
Darren Lowe scored three goals and handed out four assists,
and Ryan Boyle and Steve Dusseau also tallied three
markers each to lift the U.S. over Hudson Valley Saturday. The U.S.
team got a balanced effort as Kevin Lowe, Randy Fraser,
Scott Doyle and Kevin Lavey added two goals apiece.
Michael Powell had four assists. The U.S. team will play
in San Francisco on June 25 and in La Jolla, Calif., on June 27.
US Lacrosse, a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization, is the national
