US Lacrosse Names 2003 Women's U-19 Training Team

Baltimore — Twenty-four high school players have been named to the 2003 U.S. Women's Under-19 lacrosse training team by US Lacrosse. The 16 players that will represent the United States in next summer's International Federation of Women's Lacrosse Associations (IFWLA) Under-19 World Championship will be selected from the training team. The players selected represent high schools from seven different states and the District of Columbia.

Nearly 100 players participated in a three-day tryout at the United Sports Training Center in Downingtown, Pa., from Aug. 12-14. A 14-member selection committee composed of regional representatives, individuals involved with the US Lacrosse national teams program and the U-19 coaching staff selected the team.

"I'm really excited to be surrounded by such incredibly talented athletes," said Wendy Kridel, head coach of the 2003 U.S. Under-19 Women's Lacrosse Team. "I look forward to working with these young athletes and taking them to defend the world championship."

The U.S. finished as the runner-up to Australia in the inaugural 1995 IFWLA U-19 World Championship in Haverford, Pa., but defeated the host Australians for the championship in 1999. US Lacrosse is hosting the joint IFWLA/International Lacrosse Federation (ILF) U-19 World Championships at Towson (Md.) University from June 26-July 6, 2003.

The 60-acre, state-of-the-art United Sports Training Center features 11 outdoor fields, including two with lights, and four indoor fields. It has hosted numerous lacrosse, soccer and field hockey events. Boasting one million visitors annually, the United Sports Training Center is within short distance of Philadelphia, Baltimore and New York.

US Lacrosse, a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization, is the national governing body of men's and women's lacrosse.
