Top Seed, Three Former Champs Reach Semifinals
ST LOUIS -- Top-seeded UC-Santa Barbara and three former tournament champions advanced to the semifinal round of the 2003 US Lacrosse Men's Division Intercollegiate Associates national championship.
UCSB defeated Florida 17-10 and will meet up with Brigham Young in the first semifinal on Friday, May 9. BYU, the tournament champion in 1997 and 2000, pulled a minor upset by defeating fourth-seeded Michigan 12-8. BYU, which also knocked Michigan out in the quarterfinals last year, was seeded fifth.
The other semifinal will pit defending champion Sonoma State against Colorado State. Sonoma, the No. 3 seed, defeated Simon Fraser 12-4. Colorado State, the 1999 and 2001 champion, beat Texas A&M 12-9. Colorado State was also the runner-up in 2000 and 2002.
