U.S. Sweeps Under-19 World Lacrosse Championships
TOWSON, Md. — The United States swept the men's and women's Under-19 world lacrosse championships on Saturday evening at Towson University. The men's team defeated Canada 19-10 to win the International Lacrosse Federation championship. The women's team defeated Australia 21-8 to win the International Federation of Women's Lacrosse Associations championship. MORE....

Event
US Lacrosse hosted the International Lacrosse Federation (ILF) and International Federation of Women's Lacrosse Associations (IFWLA) Under-19 World Championships June 26-July 5, 2003, at Towson (Md.) University. The event marked the first time the men's and women's U-19 world championships were conducted jointly.

US Lacrosse appointed Ryan McClernan as chair of the 2003 Under-19 World Championships Committee, and Beth Reisinger as event coordinator.

The fifth men's tournament featured teams from: Australia, Canada, England, Germany, Iroquois, Japan, South Korea, the U.S. and Wales. The third women's tournament featured teams from: Australia, Canada, England, Japan, Scotland, the U.S. and Wales.

Games Schedule
The 2003 U-19 World Championships schedule featured 50 games over 10 days, that began with a Canada/England showdown on the men's side on June 28, and culminated in the women's and men's finals on Saturday evening, July 5. To review the schedule click here.

Event History
The U-19 World Championships began as an ILF event in 1988 in Adelaide, Australia. The event was held every four years before switching to 1999. The U.S. has won each of the previous four championships. The IFWLA began its U-19 championship in 1995 in Haverford, Pa. Australia and the U.S. have each won one title.
