Japan Takes Top Seed in Red Division at U-19 Lacrosse Championships
TOWSON, Md. – Japan used a six-goal run in the middle of the game to overcome an early two-goal deficit and defeat South Korea 12-8 to clinch the top seed in the Red Division in the International Lacrosse Federation (men's) U-19 World Championships. Japan went 3-0 in the Red Division and will meet the No. 4 seed in the Blue Division on July 2 for the right to advance to the tournament semifinals.
Shun Horiike and Osamu Kudo each scored three goals for Japan and Hiroaki Okada had five assists. Dan Chung and Ben Barchey each had two goals for South Korea which finished pool play with a 2-1 record. South Korea will play the No. 3 seed from the Blue Division on July 2 for the right to advance to the semifinals.

Women: United States 24, Scotland 1 – Coco Stanwick (Baltimore, Md./Notre Dame Prep) had three goals and four assists as the United States women's team moved to 3-0 with a 24-1 victory over Scotland (0-3). Stanwick scored the first two goals of the game to help the U.S. jump out to an 11-0 lead. Krista Pellizzi (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) had four goals for the U.S. and Leigh Jester (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) had three goals. Kirsty Stevenson scored the lone goal for Scotland.
Men: Wales 10, Germany 5 – Wales wrapped up the third seed in the Red Division with a 10-5 victory over Germany. Andrew Morgan scored five goals for Wales (1-2) and Jonathan Harry had two goals and three assists. Morgan scored three of Wales first five goals to stake his team to a 5-1 lead. Hans von Trotha led Germany (0-3) with three goals.
Women: Canada 23, Wales 4 – Canada held Wales scoreless for the final 28 minutes of the game to post a 23-4 victory. Emma-Lee Harrison had six goals for Canada and Dana Dobbie added four. The duo has combined for 30 goals in Canada's (2-2) four games. Emma Chandler had three goals for Wales (1-2).
Men: Australia 13, England 6 – Mathew Price scored four goals to lift Australia (1-2) to its first win of the 2003 U-19 World Championships, 13-6 over England (1-2). Australia achieves a tie for third place in the Blue Division with England. Price scored two of his goals during a 5-0 run in the first half that put the game out of reach. Dan Kallaugher won 16 of 20 faceoffs and scored a goal for England.
Women: Australia 21, Japan 6 – Karen Morton exploded for six goals and teammate Sarah Mollison handed out six assists to pace Australia's (3-1) 21-6 win over Japan (1-3). Five more Australians scored at least two goals in their win, which came despite dressing just 14 players. At one point, Australia ran off seven straight goals. Taeko Hanawa and Kaori Senzui scored two apiece for Japan.
Men: Canada 18, Iroquois Nation 10 – Daryl Veltman and Zack Greer tallied four goals each and Canada (3-1) pulled away late for an 18-10 win over the Iroquois Nation (0-3). Veltman scored twice as Canada ran off five straight goals after the Iroquois Nation pulled within 12-9 on an unassisted goal by Jeremy Thompson (four goals). The Canadians are off tomorrow and will resume play in the playoff tournament Thursday.
