UCLA Assumes Top Spot In First WDIA Poll
Baltimore — The UCLA Bruins are the number one team in the country according to the first US Lacrosse Women's Division Intercollegiate Associates poll of the 2003 season released today. The Bruins have a perfect 6-0 record with victories over preseason ranked No. 1 Cal Poly, No. 6 UC Santa Barbara and No. 15 Arizona.
With three of the top five teams coming from the Western Women's Lacrosse League, the WWLL is rapidly becoming the hotbed for women's collegiate club lacrosse.
There were several major poll climbers this ranking period, including Michigan (1-1) rising five spots to break into the top five, Texas A&M (3-0) leaping seven spots, and previously unranked Loyola (2-0) vaulting into the top 20.
As more teams begin play early next month and the East shovels out of the snow, the rankings will indeed change. But for now, at least, there is something big Bruin in Los Angeles.
