70th US LACROSSE WOMEN'S DIVISION NATIONAL TOURNAMENT BEGINS SATURDAY AT LEHIGH (PA.) UNIVERSITY
BALTIMORE -- The US Lacrosse Women's Division National Tournament celebrates its 70th anniversary Saturday at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa. The annual rite of spring, hosted by the Philadelphia Chapter of US Lacrosse, will feature nearly 60 teams competing in two divisions in a two-day celebration of women's lacrosse.
Thirty-six regionally selected girls teams will compete in the high school division, and 23 regional teams will compete in the club division for college-age players and older. The tournament also will feature the U.S. under-19 women's team, preparing for this summer's U-19 World Championships hosted by US Lacrosse at Towson (Md.) University. The event will culminate Sunday with an awards ceremony honoring those that have excelled in and contributed to women's lacrosse throughout the year.
"The National Tournament is all about women's lacrosse. For the players, it's a unique opportunity for them to compete alongside the best players in their region. We'll also have over 100 umpires there trying to advance their rating. With the women's lacrosse community present, it is the perfect setting to honor those that have done so much for the game," said Erin Brown, women's division director at US Lacrosse.
Action begins Saturday morning on 10 fields on the Lehigh campus. The high school division championship game will begin at approximately 3 p.m. Sunday at Goodman Stadium. The event, sponsored by the Heather Leigh Albert Lacrosse Foundation and Yolo Sportswear, also will include a lacrosse vendor village. Admission for adults is $10 per day or $15 for the tournament and for youth 18 and under, $5 per day or $10 for the tournament.
