UC-SANTA BARBARA GRABS TOP SEED IN MEN'S IA CHAMPIONSHIP
BALTIMORE — Top-ranked UC-Santa Barbara earned the No. 1 seed for the US Lacrosse Men's Division Intercollegiate Associates National Championships, presented by Lax World, Sports Her Way and STX. The championships will be played at the Anheuser-Busch Center in St. Louis from May 11-15.
The top four seeds for the tournament are UC-Santa Barbara, defending champion Colorado State, Colorado and Arizona. There have been four different teams to capture the IA Championship dating back to 1997 with Colorado State winning the title three times; 1999, 2001 and 2003. Two other schools who have won IA Championships are in this year's field including 2002 champion and 5th seed Sonoma State and 6th seed Brighman Young (1997, 2000 champions).
Four schools will be making their first appearance in the US Lacrosse MDIA Championships: No. 8 seed Oregon, #11 Florida State, #12 Missouri and #13 Georgia Tech.
Also selected to this year's field are #7 Michigan, #9 Boston College, #10 Cal Poly, #14 Minnesota-Duluth, #15 Simon Fraser and #16 Texas. There are six schools that are represented in both the men's and women's IA Championship fields; UC-Santa Barbara, Michigan, Cal Poly, Texas, Oregon and Colorado State. The 12 team women's IA Championship field was announced last week.
