Hupfeldt, Quinn named to US Men's Team Positions
BALTIMORE — Chris Hupfeldt of Haverford, Pa., and Larry Quinn of Parkton, Md., have been named to administrative positions for the 2006 U.S. Men's Lacrosse Team, announced Jody Martin, Men's Division director of US Lacrosse. Hupfeldt has been selected as the general manager and Quinn will serve as the chair of the player selection committee. The selections were made by the US Lacrosse Men's International Committee.
"Chris and Larry both bring tremendous experience to their positions," said Martin. "That experience will be critical as we put together an outstanding team in an attempt to defend our world championship."
Hupfeldt was also the general manager for the 2002 U.S. Team, which defeated Canada 18-15 in Perth, Australia to give the United States its sixth consecutive International Lacrosse Federation world championship. A longtime administrator in the United States Club Lacrosse Association, Hupfeldt will help coordinate all logistical operations for the team.
"I am thrilled with my selection as the 2006 U.S. Team general manager," said Hupfeldt. "I am excited to put to test my experiences from the 2002 team."
Quinn will be serving his second stint as the chair of the player selection committee. The committee consists of 24 college and club coaches and works with the coaching staff to select the team. Quinn, a member of the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame, was a goalie on the 1986, 1990 and 1994 U.S. teams that won world championships.
"I'm looking forward to working with the Selection Committee again and making sure the best team gets put on the field for the United States," said Quinn.
The 2006 ILF World Championships will be held in London, Ontario from July 9-22. Tryouts for the team will be held in June 2005 and the coaching staff, as well as other support staff positions, will be selected this fall.
