BALTIMORE — The United States Elite Team will face Canada in a three-game women's lacrosse challenge series over the weekend at C.W. Baker High School in Baldwinsville, N.Y. These will be the only games for the U.S. against foreign competition before next summer's World Cup in Annapolis, Md.

The U.S. has won four straight International Federation of Women's Lacrosse Associations World Cup championships and will be hosting the event for the first time since 1986 when it is played from June 23 to July 2, 2005 at the U.S. Naval Academy. The U.S. defeated Australia 14-8 to win the 2001 World Cup in High Wycombe, England while Canada finished fourth.
The U.S. Elite Team features 11 members from the 2001 World Cup team, including former University of Virginia star Cherie Greer, who has earned MVP honors in the last two World Cup championship matches. The last three winners of the Tewaaraton Trophy—Virginia's Amy Appelt (2004), Princeton's Rachael Becker (2003) and Georgetown's Erin Elbe (2002)—will be playing for the U.S. team.
Canada's roster includes nearly 20 current or former U.S. collegiate players, including Jen Johnson, a three-time All-American at Penn State from 1997 to 1999.
