BALTIMORE — US Lacrosse has been awarded the Maryland Nonprofits' Seal of Excellence for successfully completing the Standards for Excellence certification program. US Lacrosse voluntarily opened itself up to scrutiny by a "jury of its peers". The peer review team examined US Lacrosse for compliance with the Maryland Nonprofits Standards for Excellence: An Ethics and Accountability Code for the Nonprofit Sector.
Standards for Excellence are based on fundamental values such as honesty, integrity, fairness, respect, trust, responsibility, and accountability. US Lacrosse's programs and services, management, fundraising and financial practices were examined in depth before the certification was awarded. US Lacrosse is one of the first organizations to be certified under the Standards program that began in 1998.
"We strive to provide excellent service to the sport of lacrosse, as well as earn the pride of those who support our efforts," said Steve Stenersen, executive director of US Lacrosse. "Engaging in the Maryland Nonprofits’ Standard for Excellence certification process afforded us the opportunity to review our current business policies to make sure that we were meeting a high standard of accountability throughout our operations. We believe that this recognition will elevate further the confidence that our members and donors have that US Lacrosse is a nonprofit organization worthy of their contribution and involvement."
